Before you can start making money online you’ll need to learn a few affiliate marketing basics. Just like riding a bike, you’ll need to have training wheels on for awhile until you can get that initial burst of speed and learn good balance. Before you know it you’re off and running making money online, however, you can expect to get few skinned knees and other bruises along the way as you’re learning. We’ve all been there, done that. It’s amazing how much you’ll learn about other things while you’re trying to learn one thing. Did that make sense? I hope so. Anyway, here are a few affiliate marketing basics that you’ll need to learn in order to get started right.

#1. You really need to learn how to put up a web page. This means learning how to put up your own site and upload it onto the internet. If it sounds like a daunting task, trust me, it isn’t as hard as it sounds. There are even free html (hyper text mark-up language) editors online that you can take advantage of now, however I still recommend that you stay away from the free stuff. You want to OWN 100% of everything in your business and that means investing a few bucks and doing it right the first time.

#2. Find someone else that’s doing what you want to do that’s successful at it and ask them to mentor you. The best way to do this is by attending internet marketing conferences and networking with other people. Once you’ve met a few people in your niche then you’ll know who you feel most comfortable with and who the “real” experts are. They won’t be cheap, but you’ll avoid wasting a ton of money by doing this.

#3. Treat your affiliate marketing business just like you would any other business. This means setting regular work hours five days or more each week and making sure you’re not disturbed during those hours. Set up a schedule of tasks that must be done and do them without fail. These tasks can be adding a page to your website, writing an article and submitting it to a directory, writing a 10 page report on a topic that’s filled with your affiliate links and setting up a web page to give it away, etc.

The bottom line is that affiliate marketing basics are no different than learning any other business. If you wanted to be a Chef, you’d learn from a successful Chef, right? So find a mentor, set up a schedule and get to work building your business!
