Having the proper amount of keywords and their proper placement is vital for the maximum exposure of your article with search engines. It is important to place your keywords in the most effective places where they will be detected and identified as keywords by the search engine spiders. This way, your article will get a higher ranking when anyone does a search for particular keywords.

Keywords are words that are going to be placed in your article several times. If it were placed there just once, then every word would be a keyword. When the search engine spider recognizes that you have a particular word or groups of words used several times throughout your article, it determines that your article may be of value to anyone searching for your keywords.

“Keyword stuffing”, is a term used when you overuse a particular word through out your article. When you overuse a keyword in your article, the search engines will determine that you are trying to cheat the system, and will actually penalize your article for doing this. This technique of keyword stuffing can greatly effect the rating of not only the page or article you are working with, but also could result in getting your page or articles blacklisted from many sites.

Keyword density is the number of times you are going to use your keyword in your article or page. Most authors use a percentage to determine the proper amount. For instance, if you are writing a 750 word article and want to have a keyword density of 5%, then you would want to us your keyword 37 times throughout your article. There are many experts which will give you different percentages to use that they believe is the best. My opinion is that you should always test. Test, test, test. Find out which number of keywords you are comfortable with. If your article or page is bringing a nice amount of sales and profits, then that is what you should use. I think it’s all a matter of personal preference and style. The main thing to remember is not to over stuff your keywords.

When it comes to keyword placement, I like to use the hour glass technique, placing more keywords at the beginning and at the end. Having the proper number of keywords and their proper placement in your article makes it more likely that you will earn more profits from your article or page because it will get higher rankings in the search engine results and create more readers.
