Money Saving Suggestions for Reducing Your Phone Bill
Have worries about a hefty phone bill got you down? Read on for some ways to bring the cost down and keep it down.
- If you call long distance often then compare the fees you are paying from company to company. Could you get a better rate somewhere else? Keep in mind that the fees you are charged are often more relevant than the actual rate. Many companies offer low rates on long distance plans but then charge high monthly fees. If your long distance usage is moderate, you might be better off finding a provider who offers low fees or no fees for a slightly higher rate. Unlimited long distance calling plans are attractive to many people. Shop around before you make a final decision.
- Make as many calls as possible during discount rate periods. This includes evenings, late nights and during the weekend. In the same way, take advantage of holiday rates which take into account legal holidays such as Christmas, New Year鈥檚 Day, Easter Sunday, etc.
- To save on your phone bill, try to avoid using the services of an operator as this can increase the cost of your bill tremendously. This means credit card calls, calls charged to another number, collect cards, and so on.
- When calling to book a flight, hotel room etc. use the 1-800 number provided for the business as opposed to the local number. The toll-free number can save you money, especially if travel is a necessary part of your life. The majority of hotels, motels, airlines, railways, bus lines and rental car companies offer an 800 number for the convenient use of their customers.
- Only use the phone when it is necessary and when you do talk on the phone, keep your conversation to 10 minutes or less, or preferably five minutes or less. Make sure you relay this information to all family members as well.
