The best domain names are often the ones that are snapped up most quickly. Company names, cute catch phrases, and keyword phrases are usually the ones to go first, so finding just the right one for your business may take a little creativity. Here are some ways to help you find that ideal domain name.

If you already have a company name, you may find out the best domain name for you is very different. Sometimes business names don’t really say what they do, as in the case of a business that is named after someone. You may then end up with a combination of your name and what you do. A law firm, for instance, might use something like “JohnDoeLawOffice.com,” “JohnDoeDivorceLawyer.com,” or even “DoeToledoDivorceLawyer.com.” This way the name has a better chance of matching a search term a potential client enters when looking for your business.

You might also consider using the search term directly that your customer might search for. An example is the term “discount gift baskets.” If you entered that term, you might just get a website with that name as your first hit.

If you enter a term and don’t get a site with that term exactly, they may just be using a metatag that uses the exact term. Going back to the discount gift baskets, you may get a site with a different name but that has in its code the metatag “discount gift baskets.” Use the metatag for all it’s worth, but know the search term exactly before you do. This will give you more freedom to create the best domain name for your company even if it isn’t your company’s name and is not the exact search term.
